Many couples don’t conform to the typical wedding traditions that their parents might have. You should be aware of what is no longer taboo, and what is accepted so you don’t feel as if you are breaking any rules.

For example, for most religions, there is no longer any clear division between the bride and groom’s “sides” in the ceremony seating. As the couple often share friends, this makes for a much more relaxed setting for everyone. Ushers are to ensure that both sides are even in terms of number of occupants, but there is no clear distinction between the two.

Another tradition that is no longer recognized is the groom only seeing the bride before the ceremony. This is a great opportunity for making photographic memories. See your soon to be spouse a couple minutes before the ceremony privately, this way you can share the moment intimately together, and capture it on film.

Honeymoon traditions are also out the window. You can go on your honeymoon any time you please, not right after the reception. However, most couples choose to leave as soon as possible since the wedding planning is finally over and what better way to celebrate than a relaxing holiday!
